Rua 1º de Março around 1910, with Praça do Diário de Pernambuco in the distance
at left. In the foreground is the intersection with Rua Imperador Pedro II, where the
Café Lafayette was located.    This coffeehouse  was a  meeting place for bohemians,
intellectuals, and students at the beginning of the 20th century. Originally a
cigarette factory with a warehouse, the building was later destroyed in a fire.
