Costa Pereira, sits at center. To the right, we see the imposing Teatro Melpômene building,
inaugurated on May 22, 1896, and demolished between 1925 and 1926 to make room for new
streets like 13 de Maio, 7 de Setembro, and Graciano Neves. This view is from the Igreja
do Rosário and shows the old Igreja  Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Vitória, at top, where
the catedral stands today.  The two towers of the Igreja de São Tiago rise in the distance.
