Porto Velho station in 1913. The two youngsters in the photograph are the children of Swiss engineer Rudolf Oscar Kesselring, who was one of the railway’s first directors. We have him to thank for preserving the large collection of pictures taken by the American photographer Dana B. Merrill, who was contracted to record the railway’s construction.
